When an employer says they have a need for a skilled quality worker, it extends beyond technical or trade knowledge. Today’s companies are looking for workers with a decent foundation of technical/trade skills plus:

  • good verbal and written communication skills
  • the ability to work as part of a team
  • the ability to problem-solve
  • core business skills (i.e., collaboration in decision-making, project management skills, strategic thinking/planning, ethics and how to manage workplace conflict, etc.)

As employers, supervisors or hiring managers, individuals “with potential” may get an interview but don’t necessarily get the job because given daily demands or limited resources companies are hiring people “ready” from day one. The Collaborative Academy polishes the people with potential. The academy resolves deficiencies between technical/trade skills and basic business practice.
