PRINCIPAL

Iris E. Patten

As the company’s founder and principal, Iris has over 13 years of experience in GIS analysis and data management, urban planning, environmental policy and planning, and collaborative governance. Iris is actively involved in all projects completed by the Collaborative and works with staff on the design, organization, administration and implementation of each project.  Iris has prior experience in regional government, higher education, consulting, and community development. In 2016, Iris co-authored a book published by Esri Press on LUCISplus, an applied land use analysis method for determining opportunities and conflicts among various stakeholders that include urban, environmental and agriculture.  Her collaborative network includes work with tribal nations, communities, non-profits, and regional governments in the United States, Mexico and Africa.

GEOSPATIAL LEAD

JARRETT CZIESCH

Jarrett has almost 13 years of experience with geographic information science (“GIScience”), environmental science, and hydrology for regional water management districts, engineering firms, and wastewater management organizations.  Jarrett coordinates all geospatial project components and acts as a liaison with clients and stakeholders.  His experience in Enterprise GIS project management and administration includes stakeholder engagement, scientific and engineering data acquisition, reduction, and analysis, mobile and desktop applications development, spatial and statistical data analysis, integrated platforms, Web-GIS (development and deployment), and Remote Sensing programs and methods.

URBAN DESIGNER

Nicholas Zimmermann

Nicholas has 7 years of expertise in content writing, geospatial solutions development, geospatial analysis, and geo-visualization. Nicholas’ diverse educational background in fine arts (painting), environmental planning, and GIS allow him to create spatial representations that are cartographic works of art. Furthermore, his knowledge of open source tools allows him to easily create customized mapping products.

Karol Francis

Karol has 15 years of valuable experience in geographic information science and engineering. Karol took a community college GIS class on a whim in 2011, where she immediately became enamored with the beauty and utility of geospatial technologies. Karol is involved in the design of geospatial solutions from concept through production and implementation. Karol uses her background in engineering and failure analysis to design and develop structures for problem discovery that lead to greater comprehension of the factors contributing to the problem, stakeholders to include in the resolution, and development of more precise solutions.

Sheila Hernandez

Sheila is an experienced sign designer, graphic designer and creative advisor. With 17 years in the Graphic Design industry, Sheila brings a lot of creative talent to our team. She is the vision behind our website and graphics.

She developed her passion for design at the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and continues to achieve academic excellence at Saint Petersburg College. She established her career at Bic Graphic USA in Clearwater, working there for nearly eight years. Sheila is now an award winning, published writer, proud member of Phi Theta Kappa, Golden Key International Honor Society, and the Honors College Student Consortium.

Kathleen Morgan

Kathleen specializes in strategic marketing, content management, and business planning & development. She served 10+ years at the world's leading GIS software company, Esri (Environmental Systems Research Institute) where she led Esri Press’s acquisitions editorial and operations teams. There, she focused primarily on managing localization/globalization-friendly content for use in targeted vertical marketing campaigns as well as for regional, national, and international promotional initiatives. Her professional knowledge of the localization/globalization process grew from working directly with global release managers, the globalization team, translators, and personally managing localization projects by collaborating with stakeholders, product owners, cross-functional teams, and vendors to deliver market-savvy, mission-aligned content in a timely, fiscally responsible manner.

She served five years at the University of Alabama Press, and taught English composition, literature, and technical writing at the University of Alabama and the University of Southern Mississippi. She also tutored English as a Second Language (ESL) learners in the Tuscaloosa County public school system. Most recently, she has worked as a freelance business intelligence and strategic planning consultant for start-ups across multiple vertical markets.

Akira Hayashi

Akira has over 17 years of high-level global business solution and software development experience. Specializing in startup environments, he possesses broad management experience leading and developing teams, projects, vendor relationships, as well as driving international business mergers, partnerships, and acquisitions. He has an in-depth understanding of localization, testing/QA best practices, process engineering, and release management. He brings exceptionally strong diplomacy, mediation and negotiation skills to the table when collaborating with multiple teams.

He served as Consulting Business Director for Global Business Development at Japan-based mobile carrier SoftBank. There, he facilitated SoftBank's acquisition of Sprint-Nextel and led SoftBank’s Integrated Information Division. His work there contributed significantly to the successful completion of the largest corporate acquisition in the history of Japan ($21.6 billion USD).

He previously managed Esri’s Software Products Globalization Group—a team of project managers, product engineers, and developers—in charge of globalizing Esri’s entire lineup of core software products, ArcGIS, on the Web, mobile, and Windows/Linux platforms. At Microsoft, he put his advanced localization/globalization skills to use in a number of roles, including Release Manager at Microsoft/Insight Global. In that role, he was responsible for worldwide release management for the Microsoft All Access Gaming Content & Portal Team. He also held the positions of Internationalization Program Manager within the Real Time Collaboration Division, Software Test Engineer-Server Management, Software Localization Engineer—SQL & Middle Tier Server, and Software Localization Engineer—Microsoft/Volt Computer. He is a named patent holder for Web Collaboration in Multiple Languages (A. Haveliwala/A. Hayashi). Additionally, he has served as a SEO Development and Globalization Q&A Consultant for Boeing/Tectura and Hewlett-Packard. He currently works for Panasonic/Open Systems Inc. as a Bilingual Systems Engineer.

He brings a balanced approach to his work based upon both his globalization engineering background and business intelligence experience. He is bilingual—a native speaker of Japanese, fluent in both Japanese and English.
